Olympic Games-2024: metro line 14 closed almost every weekend at least until the end of March

Line 14 of the Paris metro will be closed almost every weekend until March 28, and almost every evening after 22 p.m., to carry out connection work before the start of the Paris Olympic Games, RATP announced on Monday December 4.

Automatic line 14, which serves three Parisian stations (Bercy, Lyon and Saint-Lazare) is being extended to be able to connect Orly airport to the south of Paris to the 2024 Olympic Games which begin on July 26. Saint-Denis, in the north, where many events take place.

Line 14 will be closed all day in January: Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28; in February: Saturday February 3 and Sunday February 4 then from Sunday February 11 to 25, 2024 inclusive; in March: Saturday 2 and Sunday 3, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24, Saturday 30, Sunday 31 March; as well as on Monday April 1, indicated the RATP.

It will also be closed “every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, from 22 p.m., until March 28, 2024 inclusive except December 25, 2023 and January 1, 2024”.

“The automatic train control system must be modernized on the existing line and deployed on the extended line in order to accommodate 1 million passengers per day in 2024,” specifies the RATP.

The first train tests began in January 2023 and will continue until the extension is put into service, the company adds, warning that “other closures are planned during 2024”.

The 14 kilometer southern extension includes 7 new stations, and should connect the center of Paris to Orly in 30 minutes. The line will notably serve the Bièvre scientific valley where university hospitals, research laboratories and the Orly-Rungis center are concentrated. Civil engineering works began in 2018.
