Olympic Games-2024: Airbnb ads in Île-de-France have doubled in one year

In May 2024, the research institute of the Ile-de-France region identified more than 134.400 active advertisements on the American platform. In May 2023, he counted some 67.200, and 48.700 in May 2022.

The share of entire rented accommodations (unlike private accommodation) gradually increased to reach 88,8%, while it was 83,3% in May 2022.

Advertisements for housing located in the suburbs are now as numerous as those in inner Paris (50,5% compared to 49,5%), while the capital still concentrated more than two thirds of advertisements (71,3%) in 2018.

This diffusion is part of the "structural developments" of the offer, according to the IPR, which recalls that several communities, first and foremost the city of Paris, have tightened their regulations targeting furnished tourist accommodation, in order to maintain a rental stock allowing for locals to find accommodation.

The Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) and Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8) seem to have had a "major impact" on the offer, also estimates the institute, without certainty that the accommodation newly offered for tourist rental will remain after the Games.

The number of advertisements relating to “multi-advertisers” increased from 29% in 2018 to 38% in 2024, notes the IPR, but with significant disparities between departments.

Seine-et-Marne and Essonne, in the outer suburbs, are the most affected by this phenomenon, with respectively 52,6% and 49,5% of advertisements from multi-advertisers.
