After obtaining ISO 9001 certification for its quality approach, then ISO 14001 certification in 2021 for its sustainable development policy, Tubesca-Comabi is now working to obtain ISO 45001 certification, thus confirming its commitment to health and safety. at work.
The deployment of ISO 45001 certification was launched last year and Tubesca-Comabi aims to obtain certification for its two industrial sites in Ailly-sur-Noye and Trévoux by the end of this year. It implements a common action plan to achieve this triple certification which mobilizes all the company's stakeholders, from the production units to marketing, the design office and its customers... thus making it possible to manage quality, the environment and safety within the same management system.
As part of its machine investment and product development programs, the company is committed to integrating environmentally friendly technologies to prevent pollution, reduce its energy consumption, reduce and recover its waste, etc.
Focus on a few key actions
The company reviewed all of the machine oils (for metalworking). It carried out important work with its subcontractor and manufacturer of machine oils with the aim of replacing evanescent oils with water-based oils that no longer contain solvents. The new oils used by Tubesca-Comabi are no longer considered dangerous to the health of operators and are now disposed of as ordinary waste, instead of being classified as dangerous products. This required an advance of two to two and a half years of work, because it was crucial that the tools could support this modification.
Changes have also been made in the area of maintenance, with regard to the cleaning of production tools such as crimping, cutting, pressing and other machines. Solvent-based cleaning has been replaced by cleaning using water-based detergents. This transformation was a real revolution and required a significant investment, in particular for the installation of a complete cleaning installation for the tools, allowing to transform the organization, the products and the cleaning processes of the company.
Tubesca-Comabi continues its packaging optimization approachs in collaboration with its customers, eliminating unnecessary packaging as much as possible. This initiative extends to the company's flagship products, such as rolling scaffolds, which are no longer packaged, as well as future PIRL ranges, in response to the expectations of customers who wish to limit waste management. To prevent products from rubbing during transport, the company now uses cardboard inserts as well as non-shrink, non-heat-resistant stretch film. These initiatives have not led to an increase in product breakage, quite the contrary. In 2022, Tubesca-Comabi saw a reduction in the number of breakages compared to the previous year.
As part of this approach, the Ailly-sur-Noye site also removed a shrink oven that was running continuously, reducing plastic and associated energy consumption. This initiative demonstrates Tubesca-Comabi's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and its desire to contribute to a more sustainable future.
At the heart of the CSR approach: close collaboration between the company's various departments
The CSR approach undertaken by Tubesca-Comabi involves all of its departments and activities. The Marketing department listens carefully to customer needs in order to select the most relevant opportunities to improve existing ranges or develop new products; the R&D design office, for its part, creates innovative and sustainable products by rethinking the life cycle while being in tune with market requirements.
Before the launch of the products, prototypes are tested by professional users to validate the orientations chosen and improve the functionalities.
In addition, the company works with independent organizations to question its practices, particularly with regard to raw materials, in order to reduce fossil energy consumption and improve the performance of its solutions.
Tubesca-Comabi integrates eco-design into its manufacturing and design process while improving the health and well-being of its employees, rationalizing its production lines and automating operations without added value, and aiming to reduce the environmental impact of products.
It attaches great importance to the health and well-being of its employees and also takes measures to prevent accidents at work and occupational diseases, by offering regular training to employees in compliance with the standards in force. Tubesca-Comabi is convinced that taking into account the human dimension is essential to ensure the sustainability of the company and the satisfaction of its customers.
A total commitment to health and safety at work: the process for obtaining ISO 45 certification
To meet the requirements of ISO 45001 certification, Tubesca-Comabi has implemented actions to protect the health and well-being of its employees in the workplace.. The company initially invested in the modernization of its production tools and then turned to automation, thus improving safety, quality and, consequently, profitability. Custom-made machines have been developed with digital operating modes. As part of a program to overhaul its production tools, all production lines will be reviewed within five years to ensure product quality.
With the objective of obtaining ISO 45001 certification by the end of the year, the company is determined to continue its efforts to guarantee the safety and quality of its products, while improving the ergonomics of its operators. and automating low value-added tasks.
« Our commitment to social and environmental responsibility has already been recognized by the EcoVadis Silver Medal in 2022, thus rewarding our important efforts. However, the company does not intend to stop there and its next objective is to obtain ISO 45001 certification by the end of the year. We are convinced that this triple certification will reinforce our quality and sustainable development strategy, by offering our teams and partners high quality, health, safety and security standards, as well as strong environmental orientations. These actions involve new challenges, but Tubesca-Comabi is determined to meet them by making regular investments every year since 2017” says Christophe Wattelier, Industrial Director of the Tubesca-Comabi site in Ailly-sur-Noye.
