The National Assembly voted unanimously on Thursday May 30 to create a commission of inquiry into the “indecency and unsanitary conditions” of social housing overseas, an “alarming situation”.
At the initiative, the MP for Réunion Karine Lebon denounces a series of "irregularities" and "chronic delays in the delivery of social housing".
“More than 80% of overseas households are eligible for social housing and nearly 70% for very social housing. However, only 15% of them actually reside in social housing,” notes the parliamentarian from the GDR group, made up of elected communist and overseas representatives.
The creation of this commission of inquiry was examined during a day reserved for proposals from the GDR group in the hemicycle.
Deputies from the presidential camp and LR expressed reservations.
“Political groups from Nupes (the left-wing coalition) are multiplying requests for commissions of inquiry at a frantic pace”, a “proliferation” which “saturates the human resources of the National Assembly”, criticized LR Pierre -Henri Dumont, questioning the “effectiveness” of the approach.
Made up of thirty deputies appointed in proportion to the groups, a parliamentary commission of inquiry has six months to conduct hearings and investigations, and submit a report.
