In the Gironde, New Aquitaine region, Ouvêo Menuiseries carried out a major project: the renovation of 17 period joinery, an old house, a Girondine from 1835. For this atypical project, the aluminum frame joinery was shaped tailor-made by the Ouvêo teams at the manufacturing site in Gironde, the company's birthplace.
With its elegant simplicity typical of traditional houses in the region, its pretty unobstructed view of the Gironde vineyards and its 1 m500 garden, the house, a Girondine dating from 2, has all the charm that Pauline and Romain, two thirtysomethings, were looking for. from Cherbourg. A common favorite for this house nestled in lush greenery: on 1835 levels - 2 m110 per floor, an old house certainly but healthy with a preserved original plan, little transformation since its construction. In the end, for this renovation site, “only one substantive modification was made. The removal of a load-bearing wall to double the surface of the main room”, emphasizes Pauline, the owner of the premises.
For this Girondine from 1835, Ouvêo designed 17 Joineries - 100% custom-made - and original dimensions saved
“The renovation of 17 period carpentry within this old house, and what's more, a Girondine from 1835! It's an exceptional project as we like at Ouvêo. The creation of unique openings. 100% customization is our know-how, our trademark,” says David Petrovic, director of the Ouvêo Aquitaine site. To preserve the charm of this 1835 house, Ouvêo has therefore designed tailor-made joinery, with an aluminum frame specially adapted to this type of site. “The XXX joinery was from the period,” underlines the director of the Ouvêo Aquitaine site. “The house being bright, the owners wanted to keep the original dimensions”. The Aluminum creations signed Ouvêo were shaped directly in Gironde on the manufacturing site, near the construction site - (French manufacturing certified and labeled).
“The choice of material is a delicate choice. It was a question of preserving the best enhancement of the facade. For a house from 1835, we opted for the aluminum material with a cubic finish (right angles) rather than a rounded one, allowing us to bring a touch of modernity to an otherwise very classic façade,” emphasizes Pauline. “Why aluminum? A choice guided by a simple maintenance of the material and easier than wood which was of course one of the materials favored at the start for the joinery of our Girondine”, emphasizes Pauline.
Regarding the color, the couple wanted to create a contrast between the woodwork and the light stone of the facade and bring there also modernity through color but in sobriety. “Grey imposed itself for its elegance. We took care to choose a relatively standard gray (RAL 7016) for its ease of harmonizing with other elements (shutters, etc.). We are very happy with the result,” says Pauline.
A posteriori – Any advice?
Clearly define the contours of your project first and foremost, this is rule No. 1 and the couple's advice: "What are the technical and aesthetic changes to be made to an old house, what is the budget, in what order should all this will it be done? Etc. ". As for Pauline and Romain, the three months between the promise to purchase and the handing over of the keys were used to fine-tune all these aspects. Everything was set from the start and all the work was done in 6 months: handing over of the keys in October 2019 and moving in in March 2020.
Sliding windows - Interior / Exterior - Guaranteed brightness
The Ouvêo aluminum joinery was designed to measure, in compliance with the technical and aesthetic constraints of the renovation site of this Girondine house from 1835.
Designed to fit perfectly into the exterior style of the facade, Ouvêo made-to-measure sets (shapes and dimensions) have also made it possible to combine several types of opening (doors, windows, windows). Manufactured to order, the joinery adapts to the project and the constraints of the site. Available in several large sashes and several rails, the sliding systems keep a small footprint. The runner mechanisms can be integrated into the floor, for floor continuity between indoors and outdoors. Window joinery fitted with Sécustik handles to block the opening from the outside. Sliding doors equipped with multipoint closures and anti-lifting systems. Optional key handles, hook locks, burglar-proof glazing.
