In California, villas find themselves on the verge of emptiness after the latest storm

A piece of cliff collapsed into the ocean and luxurious villas that find themselves on the edge of the void: in California, the small coastal town of Dana Point is the scene of a striking scene, after the last winter storm.

The landslide took place after the torrential rains which fell on the "Golden State" last week.

As a result, three residences valued at several million dollars are now flirting with emptiness, in this opulent place located south of Los Angeles.

But, surprisingly, these properties are still habitable. Authorities and engineers assured homeowners that their homes would not end up in the Pacific below.

Owner of one of the houses, Lewis Bruggeman assured local media that his house "is not under threat and will not" be declared uninhabitable, despite the large section of land suddenly disappearing behind his villa.

Last week, a violent storm hit California. The deluge left at least nine dead in the state, and notably caused significant flooding and landslides in the Los Angeles region.

At Dana Point, the collapse of the cliff, which occurred a few days ago, is still striking, with a gigantic pile of earth and rocks fallen into the ocean, an AFP photographer noted on Thursday.

Spectacular images, which do not prevent the authorities from ensuring that there is no immediate danger.

“Engineers who have already inspected the house have said there is no damage and there is no imminent threat to the structure, which is very good news,” Los Angeles explained. Angeles Times Dana Point Mayor Jamey Federico. "It's good news."
