Present at MIPIM, Otis Worldwide Corp. (NYSE:OTIS), the world leader in the manufacture, installation and maintenance of elevators and escalators, presented three case studies that illustrate its contribution to the challenges of the city of tomorrow:
- By leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT), Otis meets the connectivity needs of smart cities. With Otis ONE™, its IoT solutions offering, Otis makes predictive maintenance possible for all elevators. The permanent exploitation of the data makes it possible to reduce unplanned stops and to optimize the performance of the elevators over the long term, for an improved passenger experience.
- Durability is integrated by Otis from the design of the equipment. So for the new Gen360™ digital ecosystem: its eco-efficient design and electronic architecture allow it to adapt to changing needs and uses, while offering excellent energy performance. These lifts will equip the Aquatic Center and the Athletes' Village in Paris, infrastructures which are intended to be integrated into new urban districts after the summer of 2024.
- In increasingly dense urban environments, Otis provides essential mobility solutions for more inclusive cities. Thus in Karlsruhe in Germany, the extension of the tramway is accompanied by the installation of 58 escalators which will make the new infrastructures accessible.
For Bernardo Calleja, President of Otis for the EMEA region: “Innovation is in Otis' DNA and we've been helping shape urban spaces for more than 165 years. The developments of smart cities give rise to new opportunities and new social, environmental and technological challenges to which we are proud to provide solutions. As an expert in vertical mobility, we are here to support all buildings, whether new or existing, in their transition to the smart city. »
In the smart city, connectivity is at the service of more efficient mobility
Technology can be a major asset when it comes to increasing performance. Launched in 2020, the Otis ONE™ solution is the result of nearly 40 years of innovation. Thanks to sensors, Otis ONE™ directly connects elevators to the cloud and continuously analyzes the data collected in order to anticipate breakdowns and optimize maintenance.
Driven by the desire to offer the best quality of service on a daily basis, Otis has carried out a digitalization operation on the entire Vilogia lift fleet since 2021. Vilogia is a French player in social real estate which manages approximately 75.000 housing units for more than 150.000 tenants. To date, more than 1.000 elevators in the Vilogia fleet benefit from the improvements made by Otis ONE™. By anticipating and improving interventions, both in terms of time and efficiency, elevators in the park equipped with Otis ONE™ technology have recorded up to 12% fewer breakdowns over the last 35 months than similar elevators without connected.
Facilities and buildings capable of evolving with urban transformations
After 2024, the Aquatic Center of Saint-Denis and the Athletes' Village of Saint-Ouen (currently under construction) are intended to be integrated into new sustainable urban districts. The many innovations brought by the Gen360™ digital ecosystem have been able to meet the challenges of these projects, while integrating connected technologies to provide an improved passenger experience.
In the Athletes' Village (lot E), 38 Gen360TM lifts will adapt the mobility offer to new uses and flows during its transformation into a mixed residential area offering housing, shops, offices and services.
At the Aquatic Center, Otis will install 5 elevators, including a Gen360™ that will provide access to the upper level of the center. Thanks to its exclusive design that eliminates roof-top kiosk, the Gen360™ ecosystem provides a mobility solution that respects the architectural lines of the building.
Accompanying the challenges of urban travel in increasingly dense cities: the "project of the century" in Karlsruhe (Germany)
Faced with the growth of their populations, cities must manage ever greater traffic issues. Managing flows while ensuring that the city remains accessible is one of the biggest challenges.
In the city of Karlsruhe, it was the inhabitants who voted in favor of extending the tram network in 2002. One billion euros was invested in freeing the city center from traffic jams and designing new pedestrian areas. The project was largely based on the creation of an underground network of tunnels and seven new tram stations, inaugurated in December 2021.
The “project of the century”, as the inhabitants of Karlsruhe call it, required mobility solutions adapted to heavy traffic for optimal accessibility of the new infrastructures. Otis has supplied and installed 58 escalators designed specifically to withstand intense traffic indoors and outdoors, in order to support the movements of all users.
