Housing construction between May and July fell 5,5% from the previous three months, to a level that pushes the indicator back below its pre-health crisis level, according to figures released Tuesday by the government.
Between May and July, 95.900 homes began to be built in France and 125.400 future homes have obtained their building permits, according to data from the Ministry of Energy Transition, on which Housing depends.
Compared to the previous year, construction is up 4,8%, while permits jumped 41,8%. But this comparison is hardly meaningful, since in 2020 France barely came out of the first containment, which had slowed down construction and blocked the authorization process.
Compared to the previous three months, authorized housing increased (+ 2,8%), and exceeded their average for the year preceding the first confinement.
Over the past three months, housing starts have been 1,1% lower than their average for the 12 months preceding the onset of the health crisis.
It should be noted that the estimates of housing starts are more fragile than usual because of the disruptions linked to the health crisis.
Residential housing (+ 26,9%) experienced the best dynamic over one year, ahead of pure individual housing (+ 11,2%), ordinary collective housing (+ 4,9%) and grouped individual housing ( + 2,6%).
