Household morale in France "rebounded significantly" in December

He indicates that in December, "the proportion of households considering that it is opportune to make important purchases increases very strongly. The corresponding balance gains fifteen points compared to the previous month. It exceeds its long-term average, for the first times since February 2020 ".

Regarding the future financial situation of households, "the balance of opinion also increases strongly, gaining nine points and exceeding its long-term average", highlights INSEE.

Also during the month of December, the share of households considering that it is opportune to save "drops sharply".

That considering that the standard of living in France will improve over the next twelve months "increases very sharply, after having fallen in October and November: the corresponding balance gains twenty points but remains nevertheless well below its long-term average ", summarizes the institute.

"The share of households who consider that the standard of living in France has improved over the last twelve months is stable," he adds.

Fears about unemployment "fell sharply in December" but remained since April 2020 "well above" the "long-term average".

Finally, with regard to inflation, households believing that prices will increase over the next twelve months are "significantly less numerous than in November", and the share of those believing that prices have increased over the past twelve months " is stable ".

In November, household morale fell to its lowest level since the yellow vests crisis in December 2018. INSEE even revised its synthetic indicator of household confidence downwards on Wednesday, to 89 against 90, communicated at the end of November.
