The common thread of this alliance is the surplus aluminum profiles of Delta Light. For the architects of MVRDV, this alliance is an opportunity to demonstrate that beauty is everywhere, including in the most eco-responsible solutions. The hidden face of Delta Light lighting solutions becomes the attractive starting point of an architectural project whose design takes a critical look at the manufacturing process of everyday products and objects destined for disposal.
This exceptional collection, which received the Dezeen Award “Best in lighting design 2022”, is now available to order.
The art of reuse
Made from industrial elements, the High Profile collection is an opportunity to think about the reuse of materials and the concept of sustainability throughout the production process. By reusing what already exists, new aluminum parts no longer have to be manufactured or transported from the production plant, significantly reducing environmental impact. The lamp can also be disassembled, which means that part of the raw materials can be reused. Design therefore invites consumers to think about the materials that surround them, to perceive beauty in everyday life and to seize the opportunities offered by the objects that we are used to sulking. At the same time, this series is a tribute to craftsmanship. Each luminaire is carefully handcrafted from precisely selected profiles.
Delta Light meets MVRDV
It was by discovering all the elements that make up a luminaire in the Delta Light factory - from the wiring to the packaging and including the aluminum frames - that the architects of MVRVD laid the foundations for this collection: "We have was very surprised and at the same time very happy to see that they appreciated the level of precision and expertise that goes into the design and production of these profiles, but also wanted to put the raw material first”, says Peter Ameloot, CEO of Delta Light. “Seeing a usually integrated – and therefore anonymous – element become the central element of a new piece – was a particularly inspiring experience. »
In keeping with the approach to architecture that has made MVRDV famous, this collaboration therefore goes beyond the framework. The team of architects and interior designers led by Jacob van Rijs decided to highlight the difference between the slick aesthetic of the product collections presented in a showroom and the less glamorous reality of the manufacturing of the solutions. lighting. If the profiles constitute a key element of the architecture, the scraps are often little or not valued. As part of this project, the metal parts become the main element of the collection. By varying the scale and size of the elements of the wide range of Delta Light profiles, the architects of the studio have imagined a series of unprecedented luminaires. “The amazing details of these profiles are usually hidden inside the wall or ceiling; we wanted to enhance their aesthetics by placing them at the center of our new creations,” says Jacob van Rijs, founding partner of MVRDV.
