Fuel check: the counter opens for low-income households heating with fuel oil

Low-income households heating with fuel oil and who have not been able to benefit from the shield put in place for other energy sources will receive aid of between 100 and 200 euros, paid automatically or which they can request at a specially opened counter. online, according to a decree published on Sunday in the official journal and which comes into force on Monday, November 7.

This device is part of the envelope of 230 million euros voted by Parliament this summer and can be used for the payment of any type of energy bill, if ever the households concerned have filled up their tank recently.

This fuel check, valid for one year, amounts to 200 euros for households earning less than 10.800 euros per year per consumption unit (i.e. when the income of an adult in the household, once deducted in particular the burden represented by minors does not exceed 10.800 euros per year, according to the calculation by INSEE).

It will be 100 euros for those earning between 10.800 and 20.000 euros per year per consumption unit, according to the decree published in the Official Journal.

At the beginning of October, the Ministry of the Economy recalled that "this fuel oil aid will come in addition to the usual energy check, sent in the spring to around 6 million households, and the exceptional end-of-year energy check which will be sent to 40% households (12 million households)", to cope with the 15% increase in gas and electricity prices expected in 2023.

According to the government, 1,6 million households will be able to benefit from this fuel check.

How will eligible households receive it? Those who have already used an energy check to pay a fuel bill in the past will receive it automatically, it will be sent by the end of November. The other eligible households will have to make their request on the dedicated online counter (checkenergie.fr): it will be enough to send a fuel bill to receive the aid the following month, reminded AFP the Ministry of Energy Transition.
