Aiming to increase the resilience of energy systems and optimize renewable energy production processes, the proposals will be examined by territorial juries and must be submitted before October 15th. A presentation webinar will also be organized on September 8th.
In the current context of climate change and crisis in Ukraine, getting out of dependence on fossil fuels is both a climate imperative and an issue of energy sovereignty. The challenge is twofold: securing France's energy supply and accelerating the exit from fossil fuels. Through its positioning downstream of research and its management by the SATTs, the "Energy Resilience" AMI aims to capture innovations that have passed the proof of concept stage in the laboratory and to accelerate their transfer to the economic world through the creation of start-ups or industrial development. Co-developed by the two partners, the themes focus on three priority areas.
- Development of innovations or technological developments aimed at increasing the resilience of energy systems as well as the complementarity of energy vectors in the face of uncertainties in supply. This concerns the different energy vectors – gas, electricity, heat – as well as the different scales of deployment – regional / national, city / countryside, district / block. The production of hydrogen by electrolysis, the production of cold or heat by heat pump or the production of electricity from biogas, hydrogen or by cogeneration are some of the couplings of identified energy vectors.
- Development or optimization of renewable energy production processes: carbon-free hydrogen, wind, photovoltaic, biogas, etc.
- Development of solutions to support changes in behavior towards more energy sobriety.
Researchers are invited to propose systemic approaches and to imagine solutions favoring greater competitiveness of these energies of the future while taking care to reduce their health or environmental impacts.
Additional support from the SATT network and ADEME
This new collaboration between the SATT Network and ADEME will in particular ensure a continuum of funding and support for all the selected projects.
Also open to doctoral students benefiting from a thesis financed by ADEME, this AMI will notably establish a bridge between the research programs initiated by ADEME and the maturation programs supported by the SATTs. Furthermore, it falls within the objectives of the France 2030 plan, of which ADEME is one of the operators.
The winners will thus be offered full support: in-depth analysis of the market, intellectual property, legal dimensions and transfer strategy, possibility of financing in pre-maturation and/or technological maturation, from the SATTs' own funds, potentially reinforced by financial support from the AAP Prématuration/Maturation, and support for business creation. Following these maturation programs, ADEME could ensure a continuation of funding via the calls for projects that it initiates within the framework of France 2030, in particular to support the industrialization of technologies.
Territorial juries
The teams of the 13 SATTs as well as the experts from ADEME will study the files submitted within the framework of dedicated territorial juries. Among the selection criteria: a project aimed at valorization and transfer to the socio-economic world, the possibility of constituting solid intellectual property or even an application target by 2030.
The SATTs will coordinate at the national level in order to identify possible synergies between projects, or with a technology in the process of maturing, or previously transferred. The objective is to consolidate complementary technological building blocks and to develop high-potential technologies. A first for a device of this size!

For Fabrice LEEFEBVRE, President of SATT Nord: “How can we contribute, as a SATT Network, to these objectives of transition and energy sovereignty? It is the ambition that motivated the launch of this AMI of exceptional scope since it mobilizes all of our 13 SATTs. Its vocation: to challenge the scientific community around these citizen issues. With this in mind, the partnership with ADEME was obvious to us, because of its expertise on the subject and its influence with the research community. To give the proposals resulting from this CEI every chance of having a strong impact on our society in the coming years, we are going to call on the experts of ADEME, and pool the skills of the 13 SATTs, which have already enabled the transfer of many technologies in the energy field, with companies or through the creation of start-ups. Examples include the startup H2SYS, which designs and manufactures hybrid systems that generate electricity and heat from hydrogen, the METHAMAG® project, a new methanation process based on the use of magnetic induction, or the startup H2PULSE , which promotes the deployment of industrial solutions for the transition to hydrogen energy. »
For Anne VARET, Scientific Director of ADEME: “This AMI offers the SATTs and ADEME, present in each of the regions of France, a wonderful opportunity to work together, and alongside numerous territorial partners, at the heart of regional research ecosystems. It marks, we hope, the beginning of a lasting collaboration rooted in the heart of the territories. Because let's not forget, the ecological and energy transition fits well within the territories. »
