Call for applications!
This Marmoleum Design Challenge is aimed at creators (from 18 years old) and aims to design a space that would promote well-being, using the emblematic linoleum of Forbo Flooring in its Marmoleum versions, Bulletin board (panel of display) and Desktop (furniture covering).
Remember that Marmoleum is, in itself, a well-being ally. Made up of up to 97% raw materials of natural origin, phthalate-free, bacteriostatic, it offers optimal indoor air quality (class A+). Its sober, comforting decors, with invigorating or warm tones, also give serenity and conviviality to the places they adorn, creating interiors that resonate with the human need for connection to nature.
The challenge
Candidates, professionally or educationally involved in architecture and design, will have to imagine a 10 square meter module, inspiring relaxation and tranquility, to be installed in the heart of spaces such as hospitals, schools or offices (non-residential). , “any space where you can play, learn, work or be cared for”. And this, from Marmoleum which can be used as floor covering, applied to walls up to a height of one meter or even used as a decorative object and furniture, giving linoleum an inventive sculptural character.
Registration for the competition, online on the Forbo Flooring website from February 22, is free and open to designers of all nationalities. Once registered, each participant receives an information pack on Marmoleum (including two samples to familiarize themselves with the material). The jury is made up of personalities from the world of design and architecture: Ilse Crawford, Founder of Studioilse; Christine Vandover, Head of Design at HOK; Arianna Lelli Mami & Chiara Di Pinto, Founders of Studiopepe; Max Fraser, Editorial Director of Dezeen and Tamar Gaylord, Senior Designer at Forbo Flooring. The jury will decide on various evaluation criteria, such as the overall idea, aesthetics, functionality & practicality, originality, positive impact on the well-being of users, the use made of Marmoleum and the impact on the environment.
Projects, submitted in English, must be submitted no later than April 30, 2024 before midnight and be structured as follows:
- name of the project
- Description of the design idea and explanation of how it meets the specifications (500 words maximum)
- Between 5 and 10 three-dimensional visuals
- Mood board of the materials used
- Optional: A video or animation illustrating the idea (submitted via URL)
- Each image submitted must be a single image, without logo or text (JPG files with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi and a maximum size of 1 MB)
Unveiled on June 5, the winner will have their project highlighted in the showroom of the Forbo Flooring production site in Assendelft, specializing in the manufacture of Marmoleum, and will win a prize of £5000 awarded by Dezeen. Also on the cards, great visibility on the social networks of Dezeen and Forbo Flooring as well as a privileged meeting with the members of the jury and Forbo Flooring on June 21 in the Netherlands.
