In a context of environmental regulations, the mix of materials is an important issue. Each material has virtues that must be exploited. At KP1, the wood/concrete mix is a reality. The Woodstone car park project in Bordeaux is the perfect demonstration of this.
This project consists of a load-bearing wooden frame structure and KP1 pre-slabs for the floor. The combination of wood and pre-stressed concrete KP1 pre-slabs made it possible to meet the objective of reducing the site's overall carbon footprint by 30%. In addition, KP1 pre-slabs are laid directly and easily on the wooden frame because they require less shoring on site compared to a solid slab. Structurally speaking wood and concrete go together perfectly.
The wood/concrete mix seems to have unanimous support for carbon-free solutions in future projects, but what about the technical constraints associated with this type of structure?

“The wood/concrete mix requires knowledge of the associated technical standards and good coordination with the project's wood structure design office in order to recommend appropriate construction solutions. Thanks to our feedback, we have the know-how to facilitate this coordination and anticipate the points of vigilance specific to the wood/concrete mix to be checked, such as:
- Taking into account the mixed operation of wooden supports and their sizing assumptions (integration of additional reinforcement, adaptation of support conditions and sizing of KP1 construction systems)
- Verification of the compatibility of the deformability hypotheses of the wooden support with the design conditions of the KP1 prefabricated processes
- Adaptation of the support depth of the KP1 floor solutions according to the fire design conditions of the wooden support
- Verification of stability and securing in the temporary phase (e.g. shoring, stabilization support beam, etc.) »
