Engie commissions its largest onshore wind farm in Brazil

With an installed capacity of 846 megawatts (MW), this wind farm is the second largest wind farm in Brazil and among the most important in Latin America, Engie stressed in a statement.

Located in Gentio do Ouro, in the state of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, this park comprises 188 wind turbines spread over 24 plots, installed in areas with low agricultural potential, and is connected to the national grid by 28 km of transmission lines, according to the energy company.

With this project, Engie confirms its strong presence in Brazil, a priority country for the group where it has been operating for almost 30 years. The energy company already operates "15,7 GW of 100% renewable capacity there, consolidating its strategic role in the country's energy transition".

Phased commissioning began in August 2024, following authorization from the Brazilian regulator Aneel. This wind farm will allow "industrial consumers to secure a supply of renewable electricity," Engie stated.

Beyond supplying electricity, the group asserts that it has made local development a cornerstone of this project. During the construction phase, this project "generated nearly 3.000 direct and indirect jobs," with priority given to local recruitment.
