Enel accelerates in renewable energies

Despite a year marked by "geopolitical conflicts", Enel Green Power "continues to grow with the ambitious objective of reaching 75 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity" by 2025, commented Salvatore Bernabei, head of this subsidiary of 'Enel specializes in renewable energy.

This increase in capacity should make it possible to avoid the release of approximately 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year and the purchase of 2,9 billion m3 of gas, according to calculations by Enel Green Power .

Enel also plans to multiply by 15 the annual production capacity of its photovoltaic panel factory in Catania, Sicily. By July 2024, the plant should see its production capacity increase to 3 gigawatts, against 200 megawatts currently.

Enel, one of the first energy giants to have taken the turn of sustainable development, intends to achieve the objective of "net zero emissions" in 2040, "both for direct and indirect emissions".

Renewable energies now represent 48% of Enel's total production, compared to 40% of thermal origin and 12% of nuclear origin.

Enel Green Power, which is present in the fields of wind, solar and even hydroelectric energy, claims the place of world number one among private operators in the renewable energy sector.
