A stand reused for 4 tons of CO2 emissions saved
The second life of the 100% eco-designed ELCIA stand began as soon as the doors of the BATIMAT show closed. Present during the dismantling, the MUTO EVENT teams recovered 98% of its materials (the 2% of losses corresponding to scraps and soiled elements and therefore unusable after removal), i.e. more than 1.941 kilos!
By being reused and not thrown away, the equivalent of 3.955 kilos of CO2 emissions have been avoided (see calculation method below).
4 tonnes of CO2 emissions, this represents:
- 10 round trips Paris/Madrid by plane
- 1 trip around the world in a diesel car
- 559 months spent in videoconferencing
- 212 days of gas heating of a French home
For Vincent RAIMBAULT, Founder and Managing Director of MUTO EVENT: “Our goal is to transform all event waste into resources for the SSE (Social and Solidarity Economy). »
What happened to the materials of the Elcia stand?
Some examples (among others):
#1 Partitions and furniture with our DropPaper
The DropPaper (lightweight paper) that adorned the stand were largely recovered by PROCÉDÉS CHÉNEL, a company specializing in the creation of partitions, ceilings, lighting and furniture for designers of exhibitions, events or even the interior design.
#2 The melamine of cabinets at the heart of collective places, homes or even playgrounds
The cupboards that served as storage during the show were donated to LA FACTO, which supports associations, cooperatives and residents in their construction project, furniture manufacturing, development of plots or premises. Some examples of implementation: collective places, school playgrounds, mobile tents for theaters or even social centers.
#3 The plywood of the bar will settle in the daily lives of individuals
In the center of the stand, the wooden bar was a place of encounters and smiles. A friendliness that will last since the plywood was donated to the FALLS FREE WORKSHOPS. This Parisian workshop collects wood to allow individuals to build lamps, planters, benches or coffee tables.
How is the CO2 emissions equivalence calculated?
MUTO EVENT is based on ADEME's QuantiGES reference methodology. This method specifies the rules for calculating avoided emissions, permitted by the activity of a company or by a specific action (in this case for MUTO EVENT: the reuse of a material).
To calculate the total number of CO2 emissions avoided, the study retains the difference between the emissions that would have been emitted if the materials had not been reused, and those actually emitted when MUTO EVENT reuses these materials.
The gains are double thanks to the action of reuse: we save both on the ecological cost of the waste avoided, but also on that of the new material which is not purchased as a replacement!
Who is MUTO EVENT?
Every year, thousands of tons of wood, plastics, carpets and event textiles are consumed and thrown away in bulk after only a few hours of use... This finding, dramatic for the environment, Vincent RAIMBAULT witnessed first-hand, himself coming from the events sector. It is convinced of the enormous potential of reuse that he created MUTO EVENT, a company with a mission committed against single-use events. Their motto: “Do to re-do, not to undo”. For this, MUTO EVENT supports companies committed to the environment with 100% turnkey solutions dedicated to the reuse of event facilities.
