Eiffage, through its German subsidiary Eiffage Infra-Bau, in an equal consortium with the Dutch group De Romein, won the partnership contract awarded by the German group TSO Amprion GmbH with a view to carrying out the civil engineering of the infrastructures required to transport electricity from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the Rhine-Main region in southern Germany.
This contract involves the creation of an energy corridor from Lower Saxony to the economic region of Hesse in the form of a 600 kilometer cable pipeline system.
After a design phase finalized in collaboration with Amprion, the work will be carried out between 2028 and 2032. Upon delivery, this corridor will accommodate four electricity transmission lines with a power of 2 GW each. The 8 GW thus transported will meet the growing electricity needs of the Rhine-Main region by providing carbon-free energy to its industries as well as around six million inhabitants.
The award of this project via a partnership contract allows the group to define, jointly with Amprion GmbH, the exact nature of the civil engineering work required for each stage of the project. For each section, a target price, taking into account local specificities, will be agreed between the project parties.
