For decades, school, middle school and high school playgrounds have been concreted and sparsely wooded for practical reasons. However, this prevents water from seeping into the ground, increases the temperature by 6 to 8°C and creates heat islands.
In the case of the Louis Pasteur elementary school in Albertville, ECOVEGETAL planted a surface area of 492 m2 with the ECOVEGETAL GREEN permeable grass system composed of 5 cm ECORASTER honeycomb slabs, filled with substrate and pre-cultivated with different varieties of grasses. The roots of the grasses are protected by the slabs for greater resistance to trampling.
Other greening systems exist and are implemented according to the specifications:
- ECOVEGETAL MOUSSES: a system composed of honeycomb slabs with suitable substrate and different plants such as sedum, dwarf clover, wild thyme or even alpine grasses...
- ECOVEGETAL PAVÉ: a system of honeycomb slabs filled with concrete paving stones of several colors, thus allowing the creation of fun layouts
Greening in schools generally concerns schoolyards, access points (paths, parking lots, bicycle shelters), entertainment areas (ping-pong, basketball hoops, football goals, etc.) and rest areas (benches, picnic tables).
For Pierre Georgel, CEO of ECOVEGETAL: "Greening schools brings comfort with pleasant and cooler floors and more biodiversity. The fact that students are the first to benefit is a way of making them aware in a perceptible and concrete way of greening and environmental issues as a whole."
