The eco-organization Ecomaison has at the end of 2023, more than 12.000 member companies for 5,2 million tonnes of products placed on the market. As such, Ecomaison received 332,4 million euros in eco-contribution from its members, for the four sectors. Ecomaison financed and organized the collection of 1,6 million tonnes of household objects and materials. Its network of collection partners made up of 8.600 points across the country (public and professional recycling centers, distributors and brands, solidarity stakeholders) allows Ecomaison to offer a collection point within a 15 km radius to all French people. Recycling performance reaches a recovery rate of 97% on products supported by Ecomaison, including reuse, recycling and energy recovery.
A priority: proximity to collection points for individuals and professionals
Focus on the Furniture sector (DEA)
A historic and majority sector in Ecomaison's activities, furniture alone represents 1,5 million tonnes of products and materials handled. After having built and deployed this sector for more than 10 years, Ecomaison is continuing its work to encourage the extension of the lifespan of products, via funds dedicated to repair and reuse. As part of the 2024-209 approval, Ecomaison has committed to dedicating 140 million euros over the next six years to finance and develop actions in favor of reuse by actors in the social and solidarity economy. In addition, the gradual deployment of the Repair Bonus is a major challenge for Ecomaison, which structures this sector for which the repair offer is not yet mature.
Focus on the Building Construction Products and Materials (PMCB) sector
During 2023, Ecomaison pursued two main areas of development for the very young sector:
- bringing companies into compliance with the application in May 2023 of an eco-contribution scale modulated according to the recyclability of products,
- equipping take-back points for DIY and retail brands.
In parallel with its actions, to meet the objectives set by the specifications, Ecomaison calls on the Public Authorities on the need to rebalance the collection objectives by material and smooth the trajectory of deployment of the building sector. Indeed, progressivity is essential for the sector to be economically sustainable by companies in the sector and to allow investment in industrial solutions for recycling this waste.
Focus on the DIY and Garden Items (ABJ) sector
The DIY and Garden Items sector brings together a wide range of very diverse products, weights and sizes: ranging from screwdrivers to garden sheds for example. Ecomaison has launched a consultation in 2023 to adapt collection containers to small products: pallet boxes. At the end of 2023, 900 distributors were equipped with them, as well as 1400 public recycling centers and 40 professional recycling centers.
On the reuse side, local agreements have been made between stores and associations to allow them to access a source of quality products resulting from repurchase by brands.
Focus on the Games & Toys (J&J) sector
2023 was a year marked by a very strong acceleration in the equipment of collection points for toys. Nearly half of public recycling centers have been equipped. The challenge was also to very quickly engage stores in this dynamic of taking back used toys: 800 points of sale - including specialist brands - were equipped with collection terminals and signage on sorting instructions.
At the same time, more than 360 agreements with associations and brands have been concluded for solidarity collection in order to direct as many toys as possible towards reuse.
In 2023, numerous solidarity collection operations for reuse were carried out by Ecomaison:
- with the Versailles academy, collection in nearly 200 nursery and elementary schools,
- with ecosystem, as part of the “Let your heart speak” operation, collection of more than 43.000 kilos of toys in a few days in more than 670 collection points,
- with Emmaüs Défi, Refashion and the City of Paris, installation of double toy/textile collection points in Paris town halls.
These collection operations were accompanied by educational initiatives around donations, sorting and the second life of toys.
