Roland, what do we mean by “digitization of workshops”?
The digitization of workshops consists of deleting all the paper sheets that can be found in a workshop, like manufacturing orders or assembly sheets. The objective of digitization is to replace all these sheets with screens, tablets or any other digital media adapted to the constraints of the workshop station.
What are the challenges related to the digitization of workshops?
As custom joinery is a complex product to manufacture, the first issue is to obtain the safest and clearest information possible for the operator.
The second objective is twofold:
- Propose operational indicators for the position, for the island or the production line
- Provide "simple" declaration actions for hazard management, quality control and information exchange between stations
'' The challenge for CAIB: obtaining a production flow without any paper support for scheduling series and assembling joinery in the workshop ''

Where are the Carpentry Manufacturers in the digital transformation of their workshops?
The digitization of workshops is a process that started a few years ago among visionary industrialists. Today, regardless of the size of the workshop, everyone is going in this direction. Some regions even offer aid to manufacturers for this process.
We are moving more and more towards factory 4.0! The principle is to connect and link each machine in the workshop to have information available in real time and to be able to manage and anticipate hazards quickly.
What would be your advice for Industrialists wishing to embark on the digitization of their workshops?
The principle of digitization is to gradually move towards a “0 paper” workshop. You should always keep in mind that the number 1 objective is to make joinery. Digitization should simplify the access and display of information and thus improve productivity and manufacturing quality.
Another very important factor is the involvement of operators well in advance of the digitization process. They must be present during the analysis, validation and training phases.
Our digitization went through several key factors:
- An “AGILE” approach with a station-by-station deployment for existing production lines
- A significant material investment to equip the workshop with a declaration screen
- IS resources necessary for the adaptation of production ranges and the configuration of different screens
- IS developments in autonomy with ISIA's ad hoc expertise on certain technical issues ''

How does the Diapason ERP and technical configurator contribute to the digitization of workshops?
Diapason allows Industrialists to meet customer requirements, while controlling their production, production and delivery times, margins, etc.
One of the strong points of the solution is to manage information relating to customers or production and disseminate it throughout the company directly. Each operator is thus guided by screen in the workshop. The latter flashes the bar code placed on each joinery so that all the information appears on the screen. Complex points stand out in red. Each step of the process can be declared in order to obtain a clear vision of the progress of the batches in the workshop and to trigger immediate actions to deal with hazards. Diapason also provides performance indicators allowing everyone to know where it is in relation to the pace to be respected and to obtain a direct feedback on productivity. With the digitization of workshops, operators benefit from more reliable information. They are alerted and guided step by step by digital operating procedures which saves them precious time. They are empowered in all their tasks, their position is therefore valued.
The digitization of workshops has been at the heart of our mission for over 20 years. Our teams have significant experience, coupled with their expertise in the carpentry, blind and closing trades. This knowledge allows us to support our clients in the successful deployment of their projects.
What are the feedbacks from your Industrial customers?
Their feedback shows that digitization brings fluidity to the workshop (optimization of actions to be carried out, travel, research, etc.) and increases customer satisfaction.
The benefits of digitizing the workshops seen by CAIB:
- Productivity Gains
- Reduction of wasted time related to paper management
- Rigor in the processes and production flows (queue)
- Precise information and controls at each production station
- Ease of use of screens
- Reinforced traceability of joinery in the production process
- Financial and environmental gains
- End of prints
- More time for value-added tasks
- Gains in Management
- Supervision of piloting in real time
- Lean manufacturing approach: maximizing customer value while minimizing waste
Testimony: Marc CAREY - DSI, EURADIF:
"With Diapason, we have provided operators with touch screens at each stage of production"
“We are a major player in the front door sector. Our workforce is 160 people spread over 2 sites.
Our story with ISIA started in 2012. There are 105 Diapason users today. We use all the modules: production, configuration, purchasing, stocks, CRM, sales, QSE, costs.
The ISIA teams helped us meet two objectives:
- Delete paper production orders and provide touch screens at each stage of the physical range to allow rapid and fluid step declaration
- Work in relation to the start and end dates of the stage, and propose glazing lists classified by priority date
Our glazing production orders are now processed by priority and the scheduling results are quickly felt. In parallel, we have set up a Web restitution tool to support the Scheduling Service and the Workshop Manager in order to detect stage delays very early on.
Several elements allowed the success of the project:
- The structuring of the needs analysis in relation to an objective defined at the outset
- The establishment of a team dedicated to the project
- Operator involvement from the start of the project
- Working in project mode with a lot of coordination points ”
