Velaines bypass: Capremib prestressed beams for the new engineering structure located in the commune of Ligny-en-Barrois (55)

At Ligny-en-Barrois in the Meuse, the RN4 – RN135 interchange intended to bypass the town of Velaines required the construction of a civil engineering structure.

The contractor for this work, NGE GENIE CIVIL, called on the expertise of Capremib, a recognized specialist in custom-made concrete prefabrication for the construction and civil engineering markets, to build this bridge made of prestressed beams.

Contributing to better traffic flow and the safety of users on a daily basis, the Velaines village bypass project consists of the construction of a new section of the RN135 over a length of 3,3 km between Ligny-en-Barrois and Tronville-en-Barrois. It consists of a complete interchange on the RN4 including several bridges.

Winner of the call for tenders launched by the DREAL / Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing in January 2024, the company NGE GENIE CIVIL entrusted Capremib with the execution plans and prefabrication of the prestressed beams for one of these 5 engineering structures.

With a total length of 44 m in two spans, it is made up of 32 prefabricated prestressed beams, with a span of 21,20 m:

4 rectangular section beams, weighing 16 tonnes each, located at the ends,
28 inverted T-section beams of 19,6 tonnes each located at the heart of the structure.

They are made from 240 m³ low-carbon concrete type C60/75, formulated based on CEM I with slag.

Constituting the supporting structure of the bridge, the prestressed beams are laid parallel to their supports located at the abutments and intermediate piers. They are connected and keyed to concrete spacers with, above, a 23 cm slab which makes it possible to create the complete deck with a thickness of 83 cm.

Delivered two by two in 18 installments, from February 14 to March 3, 2025, the Capremib prestressed beams have enabled the EGIS group to save valuable implementation time (elimination of formwork and formwork removal operations, limited number and length of cross-sections) while offering a perfect finish and the guarantee of a factory-prefabricated product.
