DécoData 2024: a worrying year for the Decoration Trade

A marked decline in activity in 2024

DécoData, the market analysis tool developed by the FND, published its annual report at the end of January. The main finding was a historic 3,8% decline in activity, representing a loss of €100 million for interior design retailers. “There are mechanically between 300 and 500 direct jobs destroyed”, comments Philippe Poujol, president of the FND. "This is all the more worrying as the trend still points to difficult times ahead.", he adds. This situation illustrates an increasingly constrained environment, fueling an unfavorable economic dynamic.

Alongside this contraction in activity, new regulatory requirements have been introduced, directly impacting those involved in the decoration trade. These developments, the effectiveness of which remains uncertain, are leading to increased costs for businesses. Faced with these challenges, the FND is refocusing its priorities and relying on the momentum of its Partners Club to intensify its actions around several strategic axes:

• The digital passport for products, to ensure smooth and transparent transmission of information between manufacturers and professional customers. Speed ​​and dissemination of data are key issues.
• Management of construction waste and offcuts, with initiatives such as Rekupo or partnership actions. The profession puts forward pragmatic and effective solutions to address complex problems.
• Strengthening market analysis tools, by integrating data from related sectors for a refined view of trends and strategic signals.
• Increased dialogue with public authorities, in consultation with other federations, to contribute to recovery actions, encourage investment and ease regulatory pressure.
