To support roofers, CUPA PIZARRAS, world leader in natural slate, has just acquired the Pizarras Lomba quarry (Galicia, Spain). This buyout will supply the French market, by redistributing from 3.000 to 5.000 tonnes each year.
Established in Rennes since 1990, the Spanish group CUPA PIZARRAS exports 80.000 tonnes of shale each year to France, the world's leading slate consumer, thanks to a long slate tradition that has now passed.
e. Today, 40% of natural slates imported into France come from quarries operated by CUPA PIZARRAS.
With the acquisition of the production company Pizarras Lomba, based in Sobradelo de Valdeorras in Galicia, CUPA PIZARRAS consolidates its status as world leader in natural slate and strengthens its position on the French market.
Stéphane Renard, CUPA PIZARRAS Sales Director in France, details: “Building professionals are now faced with an unprecedented situation. Order books are full but the shortage of raw materials places them in a delicate situation vis-à-vis their customers. The covid-19 crisis has unbalanced supply and demand. With the acquisition of the Pizarras Lomba quarry, we now have a new quality deposit to supply French roofers. We are therefore continuing our growth, and are keeping the objective of reaching 50% market share in the years to come. ”
Since December 2020, CUPA PIZARRAS has acquired two other slate quarries in Galicia: Pizarras Gallegas and Proinor. The group has also expanded with Rinus Roofing Supplies, a specialist distribution network in the United Kingdom, adding to the brand already present in the Burton Roofing group. All of these investments allow CUPA PIZARRAS to control 45% of the world production of natural slate, with 20 quarries to its credit.
