€ 220 million contract with Vinci for the construction of ventilation shafts for the tunnel on the Lyon-Turin line

The work planned to last 36 months will employ up to 250 people, including workers and supervisory staff, said Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin (TELT) in a press release.

The contract covers the construction of four vertical shafts excavated from the foot of the Villarodin-Bourget-Modane descent.

With a depth of 500 meters and a diameter of 5,2 meters, they will be made with tunnel boring machines of the Raise Boring Machine type, a technology developed by the mining industry for vertical excavation of small diameters.

This technique is particularly effective for the safety of workers and makes it possible to minimize the impact on the territory thanks to a reduced surface area of ​​work, explains TELT.

The excavation materials will be transported to the outside by the existing descent.

The contract also provides for the construction of all the works necessary for the proper functioning of the shafts, in particular the excavation of seven caves measuring up to 22 meters high and 23 wide, which will subsequently allow the tunnel boring machines to be mounted. will pierce the base tunnel towards Italy.

At the same time, activities are continuing on the six active construction sites, adds TELT.

The group of companies is made up of Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Dodin Campenon Bernard, Vinci Construction France, subsidiaries of Vinci Construction (65%), as well as Webuild (33%) and Bergteamet (2%).

The future rail line between Lyon and Turin aims to reduce the transport of goods by truck across the Alps in favor of rail and to halve the travel time for passengers, by putting the Piedmontese capital two hours from Lyon . The date of its commissioning has been set at 2030.
