ConstruirAcier rewards 10 steel architecture projects on various scales and strong expressions

On October 6, 2020, on the 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower, the winners of the 6th Eiffel Trophies, organized by ConstruirAcier, received their distinction from the hands of Francis Soler, architect, President of the 2020 jury. This competition, dedicated to experienced architects, rewards each year remarkable projects carried out with the material steel. Of the 80 or so applications submitted, 10 projects were awarded prizes.

General Delegate and Communications Director of ConstruirAcier, Charlotte Flores praised the architectural audacity of the award-winning projects and recalled that the steel-construction sector fits well into this creative dynamic. "The material steel now offers innovative solutions for building well, reliable, fast, responsible, sustainable, resilient, economical and efficient," she underlined. The health and economic crisis that the world and France are going through today pushes to reconsider the patterns of action and thought in construction. Heritage, industrial and architectural, fully anchored in the regions with its 175 jobs, with a strong production capacity, the steel-construction sector is ready to bring the best to French construction and participate in major projects in metropolitan areas ”.

For Stéphane Herbin, architect, Director of the Innovation department at CTICM (technical and industrial center for metal construction), present during the presentation of the Eiffel Trophies “We have to build, even more today, by asking ourselves“ the right material in the right place ”.

“Through these trophies, we have a good illustration of it. Beyond its fire protection, lightness and solidity properties, steel makes it possible to respond to environmental concerns and the challenges of the circular economy. Constructive steel solutions are conducive to saving resources and reuse. They allow to combine with any other material to approach new construction and renovation. Thanks to the cellular beam, it is possible to gain an additional floor every seven levels. Steel construction products are also recycled up to 98% for beams.
Engaged in the Strategic Committee for the "Construction industries" sector, the sector places innovation at the heart of its priorities: digital transition and industry of the future, additive manufacturing, BIM, traceability and modularity thanks to prefabrication, scheduled deconstruction, prevention of waste production ...
In the life cycle analysis which takes into account 26 indicators, steel has very significant results concerning 25 criteria in terms of impact of photochemical zone, waste, water ... The carbon criterion, meanwhile, is a subject of advanced research to limit its impact. Steel is a removable, scalable material that promotes rehabilitation, elevation and mixing of materials. These assets must be taken into account today. "
