For CAPEB
This advert will, in fact, make it possible to guarantee greater transparency on the price increases practiced by manufacturers and distributors, in a period of high price volatility. Transparency that CAPEB has strongly called for, particularly in the context of the 26 proposals it made during the building conference.
Although this tool will be able to contribute to the reflection mission launched by the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly on the essential transparency of the prices practiced within the building sector that CAPEB obtained last October, it does not meet the request that the professional organization had made concerning the establishment of a minimum notice period of one month.
Last July, when the business mediation had drawn up a joint declaration aimed at setting up economic solidarity in the sector, the CAPEB had already deplored the lack of commitment concerning a possible notice period by not signing it.
Because this commitment is essential so that small-scale building companies do not support, on their own, the price increases of materials and equipment by cutting their margins, CAPEB has undertaken to build a more ambitious solidarity movement by calling on the actors of the sector to commit to the following three points:
- inform their client in advance of price increases
- issue quotes valid for at least one month (excluding available products)
- increase their price only on the 1st of each month
This movement currently has 40 partners who have become aware of the interest in acting collectively to limit the impact of the rise in the cost of materials as accurately as possible and thus preserve the growth of the sector.
For Jean-Christophe Repon, President of CAPEB: “The tool for analyzing the production costs of building materials is an important first step in responding to the concerns of craft building companies. But if Bruno Le Maire's objective is truly to bring them more visibility to better anticipate future increases, then we ask him to change the text of the joint declaration of July 11th by including a notice period of 'a month. This solidarity is crucial in a context where the year 2023 promises to be even more difficult than 2022.”
For the FFB
The FFB welcomes the materialization of this commitment by Bruno Le MAIRE made during the 24 hours of the building last November, the result of a reflection initiated within the Crisis Committee of the construction industry of the Mediation of companies, then carried during the Assizes of the construction.
Placed under the aegis of INSEE and built on the same logic as the BT or TP indexes, the tool for analyzing the production costs of building materials will enable building companies and their customers to better anticipate the effect on the prices of these materials of shocks such as those suffered since 2020.
Its full success requires the participation of the upstream of the sector, manufacturers and distributors. The FFB knows it can count on them, in the name of sector solidarity in a still difficult context.
For Olivier Salleron, president of the FFB: “The repeated crises since the Covid-19 pandemic have weakened building craftsmen and contractors. It is now essential that the whole sector take part in the effort, in order to ensure its survival. The tool unveiled by Bruno Le Maire, which will make it possible to better anticipate changes in construction costs, is therefore timely. »
