The FFB opposes the recommendation of the General Inspectorate of Finance to abolish VAT at 10% for non-energy renovation work on housing. Such a proposal, if it were retained among the arbitrations of the 2024 Budget, would not only burden the purchasing power of the French, would relaunch illegal work and would lead to job cuts.
The transition to a full rate of 20% for this work would constitute a denial of the presidential promise, that of not increasing public levies on the French. In fact, on the basis of 2022 data, the application of a full rate would have resulted in an additional cost of 4 billion euros for our fellow citizens.
Craftsmen, VSEs and SMEs would be the first to be penalized by this less attractiveness of their quotes. This is all the more inappropriate since the government wants to fight against vacant or unsanitary housing for lack of major renovation and that it intends to facilitate the maintenance of seniors at home through appropriate work.
For Olivier Salleron, president of the FFB: “I refuse to believe that the government decides in favor of an increase from 10% to 20% of the VAT rate applied to non-energy work on housing, a choice which would reinforce inflation and revive illegal work.
