Climate law: Road carriers denounce "nonsense"

The text runs the risk of "missing the turning point in the energy transition while weakening French companies and ultimately calling into question our sovereignty in terms of transport and logistics", according to a joint press release.

FNTR, TLF, OTRE, Unostra and Chambre Syndicale du Déménagement denounce "tax measures that are inefficient from an environmental point of view", namely the gradual elimination by 2030 of the tax mechanism on the taxation of diesel for professionals and the possibility for the regions to create a road ecotax.

"There is (...) no correlation between the increase in the taxation of the sector and a possible modal shift towards alternative freight modes" and, even if rail and river freight transport is seeing its share doubling, the route "will remain the very large majority mode at more than 75%", they point out.

"This is the reason why we must accompany and support road transport in its energy transition and not fight it", explain the employers' organizations.

The increase in taxation will also favor foreign trucks, according to them.

"It is inconceivable and counterproductive that when the profession will need several billion investment per year to accelerate the energy transition, the state decides to withdraw nearly 1,5 billion (euros) from it. and destroy its margins and any investment capacity ", they accuse.

"Road transport of goods and logistics is a strategic sector, vital to the sovereignty of the country", stress the organizations, recalling its crucial role in the health crisis.
