The implementation of the 2020 Environmental Regulations now involves the integration of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to assess the environmental impact of buildings so that they are energy positive. This regulation imposes various constraints, but mainly, a carbon impact not to be exceeded per m2.
Thus, players in the sector must now be able to assess the environmental impact of their products using LCA methods, in order to meet regulatory requirements.
Thus, CLAREO very quickly trained internal LCA experts to support its clients on these complex themes.
CLAREO is thus taking a new step in its CSR approach with the introduction of the 1st Product Environmental Profile (PEP), the most precise method for analyzing the life cycle in the lighting sector.
What is a PEP:
A PEP is a life cycle analysis for electrical products. The PEP Ecopassport Program defines the rules for calculating the environmental impacts of lighting products in buildings via a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of products based on 6 pillars:
The 1st Product Environmental Profile of the lighting market
As a committed player, CLAREO continues to work on a daily basis to reduce the carbon impact of its lighting fixtures.
Thus, to respond to new regulatory constraints, CLAREO has trained internal LCA experts to support its clients on these complex themes.
The first PEP CLAREO is available on the INIES database. The latter presents one of CLAREO's flagship products, the ACCESS 8 panel and thus covers 12 references.
This LCA highlights in particular that the stage of use of lighting fixtures is the one which represents 90% of their carbon impact.
See the PEP in the INIES database
90% of the impact is linked to the use of the luminaire
The different environmental indicators of PEPs make it possible to highlight the 2 major emission sources on a luminaire:
- 90% of the carbon impact is linked to the use of the luminaire*
- 9% of the carbon impact is linked to manufacturing*
- Less than 1% of the carbon impact is therefore linked to distribution
As a committed player, CLAREO continues to work on a daily basis to reduce this carbon impact through numerous actions such as:
- Increase the light output of products on a daily basis
- Use recycled materials
- Promote repairability: 90% of CLAREO lighting fixtures are repairable
- Promote reuse
