Civil servant unions announce “mobilization” for salaries on March 19

“In a context of still sustained inflation” (+3,7% over one year according to INSEE), “it is urgent to open negotiations without delay to improve careers and take general measures for salaries”, affirm in a joint press release the CGT, FO, CFDT, Unsa, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP.

“To put an end to the spiral of impoverishment of all public service personnel (...), the trade union organizations decide on a day of mobilization next Tuesday, March 19 and call on personnel to mobilize by all means, including strike,” they add.

A distant date which can be explained by the "time" necessary to build this mobilization and the proximity of the February holidays, explains to AFP the secretary general of Unsa-FP Luc Farré.

After general increases of 3,5% in 2022 and 1,5% in 2023, the inter-union has been calling for a new increase in pay for several months and had already mentioned the idea of ​​mobilization in March, without specifying it. the date.

Meeting on Wednesday, the eight unions also denounce the disappearance of the Ministry of Civil Service in the government of Gabriel Attal, which they interpret as "a maneuver aimed at dodging the emergency of salary revaluation".

After a first wave of appointments of full-time ministers on January 11, secretaries of state and delegate ministers must be appointed soon. But the government will only be completed after Gabriel Attal's general policy declaration, scheduled for Tuesday.

In its press release, the inter-union criticizes on Thursday the extension of merit-based remuneration for civil servants envisaged by Emmanuel Macron.

The 5,7 million public employees "are not waiting for 'merit' but for remuneration which allows them to live with dignity and is taken into account for the calculation of their pensions", insist the unions.
