To respond to this challenge, RECTOR moves the lines and creates Caméléo®, a prefabricated concrete floor-slab structure without a load-bearing wall that integrates all the resistant elements into the thickness of the floor. Composed of a frame of posts and a reinforced concrete slab, Caméléo® allows the construction of scalable buildings whose interior spaces and facades can be easily reconfigured over time.
Caméléo®: anticipate transformation from the design of the structure
How to design long-lasting buildings, structurally designed to be scalable and easily converted into apartment buildings or tertiary spaces? To meet this new challenge alongside architects, RECTOR has developed Caméléo®, a custom-designed concrete structure prefabricated in the factory to overcome load-bearing walls and integrate all the resistant elements into the thickness of the floor.
Thanks to its great adaptability (no fallout from beams or heavy partitions), the free-standing platforms lend themselves to all configurations and the building constructed today easily adapts to new uses tomorrow. The transformation can be planned from the design of the structure by carefully choosing the location of the posts.
"With Caméléo®, buildings will become more durable structures since they are no longer encumbered with elements that disrupt their development and modularity over time"
-François Pélegrin, Architecture Agency Pélegrin, Paris
RECTOR thus leaves architects free to express their creativity in an evolving framework, while minimizing the costs and environmental impact of conversions.
Saving of work time and cost control from construction to reconversion
With great adaptability and an implementation reducing production time by 25% compared to poured concrete, Caméléo® offers many economic advantages. Personnel costs and equipment rental are reduced accordingly.
In order to facilitate the work of the masons, to reduce the arduousness on the sites and to guarantee the good implementation on site, the lower layer, the anti-puncturing reinforcements and the key points of the reinforcement are integrated in the SPD pre-slab constituting the structure by Caméléo® at the factory.
In conjunction with the project manager and / or the structural work company, RECTOR's logistics department ensures a timed delivery to the Caméléo structure site.® (pre-slabs, SPDs, posts, pre-walls, etc.) depending on the progress of the work and the constraints of the site in order to improve its organization and efficiency.
In the short term, the early delivery of the building allows the future manager to generate added value thanks to the early collection of the first rents compared to a traditional solution. In the longer term, Caméléo's great adaptability® mechanically reduces the cost of transforming the building at the time of its conversion.
A significantly improved environmental impact
With Caméléo®, RECTOR uses the mechanical performance of reinforced concrete to lighten the structure as much as possible and thus contribute to the environmental sobriety of the building. This innovative solution makes it possible to use lightweight facades and bio-based materials with a low carbon footprint, whatever the stage of the project (design, operation or major renovation).
Choose Cameleo® to achieve a building, it is also to increase its lifespan. Built so as not to be destroyed but only transformed, the building thus designed allows for significant savings in materials and therefore CO2 at the time of his conversion. This new structure makes it possible to be part of a sustainable eco-design approach by extending the life cycle of the building thanks to the anticipation of its future destination.
Like the chameleon, the new Caméléo prefabricated slab floor structure® of RECTOR has the capacity to adapt so that a building can support changes in lifestyles while minimizing, in anticipation, the scale, cost and environmental impact of transformations.
