Autodesk Construction Cloud becomes Autodesk Forma

Autodesk had previously shared a clear ambition: to unite planning, design, construction, and operations within a single, connected environment that covers the entire lifecycle of the built environment. Today, that ambition reaches a significant milestone. Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is now called Autodesk Forma, marking a major step in Autodesk Forma's evolution as a cloud dedicated to the AECO industry. Construction has long been central to our strategy, and with this transition, it is fully integrated into Forma, strengthening the continuity between design intent and project execution. This is a critical step toward a more unified, data-driven future for the AECO industry, where teams rely on shared data rather than isolated files, and where upstream decisions provide context and clarity downstream.

According to Jeffrey Hojlo, Vice President of Research at IDC: “Organizations in the AECO sector recognize that data fragmentation and disconnected workflows limit productivity and decision-making. A platform-based approach that unifies data and project processes throughout the lifecycle is essential, and the evolution of Autodesk Forma reflects how the industry is moving toward more connected environments for planning, design, and construction.”

What this means for customers

For customers, continuity remains paramount. No data migration is required, and existing workflows remain unchanged.

The tools that teams rely on daily will continue to offer the same proven functionality and performance. The difference is that these tools now operate within a more connected, industry-wide cloud that enhances continuity throughout the project lifecycle. With Forma Data Management (formerly Autodesk Docs) serving as the common data environment for all of Forma, teams can now operate within a more connected lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and operation. Shared, granular data replaces disconnected file transfers, enabling teams to move from isolated updates to continuous collaboration while improving visibility across the entire lifecycle. A continued commitment to the construction sector

This transition reinforces Autodesk's ongoing investment in the construction industry through Autodesk Forma, expanding both access and functionality to help teams make more informed decisions throughout their projects. Starting March 25, Forma Build Essentials will bring together the essential jobsite tools that contractors rely on in one efficient and focused workspace. Teams can record issues and incidents using photos and locations, view the latest files and models, annotate plans, and record daily reports on the web or via the Forma mobile app. Designed for small and medium-sized teams and day-to-day jobsite work, this tool helps teams stay coordinated and keep projects moving forward.

Forma Build Essentials will bring together in one place the essential construction tools that contractors depend on.

Also effective March 25, Forma Data Management Essentials expands access to cloud collaboration within Autodesk Forma, enabling desktop users and their project data to integrate with the broader ecosystem of connected workflows. Forma Data Management Essentials will be available to subscribers of the standalone versions of AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D, as well as the Product Design and Manufacturing Collection. By linking desktop workflows with cloud-connected project data, teams work from the same up-to-date information throughout planning, design, construction, and operations. This enhances coordination, reduces versioning confusion during responsibility handovers, and provides construction teams with clear visibility into current drawings, models, and project information as work progresses toward execution. Autodesk is also launching a beta version of the Bidding tool today, which integrates BuildingConnected's proven bid management workflows directly into the Forma pre-construction experience. By placing tenders in the same environment as Takeoff and Estimate, teams can manage multiple tenders within a connected project context and streamline coordination between pricing and qualification, while collaborating more seamlessly across all preconstruction activities. The beta version is currently available via US-based data storage and requires a BuildingConnected Pro subscription as well as a subscription to the Forma Takeoff or Forma for Preconstruction package. Subcontractors and bidders can continue working as they do now, while project teams benefit from enhanced visibility and coordination within Autodesk Forma.

Strengthening connected workflows

The evolution from Autodesk Construction Cloud to Autodesk Forma demonstrates a fundamental commitment to providing a connected system that covers the entire lifecycle of the built environment. When teams work from shared data and integrated systems, they can identify risks earlier, reduce rework, and improve project outcomes. Greater continuity enables more efficient use of time, labor, and materials, creating the conditions for more sustainable delivery at scale. Autodesk is also advancing its construction platform strategy. Autodesk has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rhumbix, a construction technology company specializing in resource management solutions for workforce and field productivity. Autodesk recognizes that resource management is a critical need for our construction customers, and Rhumbix offers a proven solution widely adopted by general contractors, specialty contractors, and some heavy civil engineering contractors. If our planned acquisition of Rhumbix goes ahead as expected, our long-term intention is to deepen field-to-finance workflows within Autodesk Forma, thereby enhancing visibility from the construction site across all project systems.*

Files with connected results

At AU25, Autodesk discussed the shift from files to open, interconnected data, from silos to hyper-collaboration, and from isolated decisions to results-driven BIM powered by AI and automation. With construction now unified under Autodesk Forma, this direction is taking shape. Forma is designed to help teams get started earlier, maintain consistent decision-making, and act with greater clarity throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to completion, creating the continuity needed to unlock potential and achieve better results at scale. This milestone represents significant progress and is just the beginning of what a truly connected platform can deliver to our customers and the industry.
