Arkema acquires Edge Adhesives in Texas

The acquisition, carried out by Bostik, the Arkema subsidiary, the world's number three in industrial adhesives, for an unannounced amount, should be effective in the second quarter of 2021, Arkema said in a press release.

Edge Adhesives Texas, headquartered in Fort Worth (Texas), employs around 12 people and has sales of US $ XNUMX million.

With this acquisition, Arkema intends to extend Bostik's activities to "hot-melt adhesives" and "self-adhesive tapes for the residential buildings market".

Arkema, which makes the "specialty materials" activity (which includes adhesives) the heart of its priorities, intends to become by 2024 a player "100% positioned on these products with high added value".

As part of this refocusing, the group also announced on May 3 the finalization of the sale of its PMMA (plexiglass) activities to Trinseo, a group specializing in the production of plastics, synthetic rubbers and latex.

The net proceeds from the sale of PMMA, carried out on the basis of an enterprise value of 1,137 billion euros, will take into account a capital gain tax estimated at around 15% of this amount, Arkema said.

PMMA employs around 860 people and has 7 production sites (4 in Europe and 3 in North America).
