The Algeco company, in full transformation, wishes to measure precisely the performance of its various offers across all of its countries.

However, obtaining a global and homogeneous vision on the 18 countries of the Group is not easy when the information systems are of different origins. “Our Group has been built by external growth, explains Jean-Marc Varnet, IT Director Europe at Algeco, and the subsidiaries have retained a large degree of autonomy in the choice of their information system. Today we have a dozen different ERPs, which does not facilitate data consolidation. "

Algeco has therefore initiated a Data Warehouse Group project which will allow data from different systems to be gathered and standardized. In order to be able to inject relevant and quality data into this new warehouse, it was necessary to carry out an audit of the existing system and user expectations beforehand. "We did not have Data Management or data governance at the time," explains Jean-Marc Varnet. The first step was therefore to go see what was happening on the ground. "

A fast & efficient audit phase in fifteen countries with all departments

To support it in this mission, Algeco chose Keyrus Management for the relevance of its response and the proposed methodology. "We wanted to make the best use of the availability of our teams for this first phase of study," explains Jean-Marc Varnet. Keyrus Management has adopted a pragmatic approach, based on an interview questionnaire that integrated both quantitative and qualitative aspects. In addition, their methodology allowed us to quickly obtain an analysis of the responses collected and concrete results. "

For this "user needs assessment", around a hundred interviews in fifteen countries were carried out by experts from Keyrus Management. Each expert in the Consulting Firm had been chosen for his technical and professional knowledge. This new data governance project impacted a large number of employees across many departments. Indeed, data is a source of information at the heart of the company's activity. Thus, the employees interviewed came from various departments: Management, Finance, HR, Commerce, Purchasing, Production, management teams ...

For this audit phase to be effective, it was important that the experts at Keyrus Management immerse themselves in business processes to understand their challenges in terms of the quality of the data and the desired performance indicators. The study addressed themes such as the role of data for the user, the perception of data quality according to 14 criteria, the most important KPIs, or even the security rules related to the use of data.

Recommendations for building 360 ° data governance, including on business processes

At the end of this phase of interviews, Keyrus Management presented its recommendations to the Algeco management committee, which related both to the cross-cutting aspects around data (governance, tools, change management, etc.) and to the processes. professions to be optimized to guarantee data quality.

"We were able to identify the areas where the data was most sensitive, the elements to enrich and homogenize," notes Jean-Marc Varnet. We now need to bring these projects closer to the initiatives already started for the various transformation projects of our IS. "

This preparatory phase also demonstrated the crucial role of data and the significant expectations of employees with regard to its exploitation and enhancement. "The complementarity of the Keyrus Management teams, their commitment to this mission and the methodology used have made it possible to deliver pragmatic recommendations that are particularly suited to the business challenges of our different departments", concludes Jean-Marc Varnet.
