Airbnb: a market regulation text soon to be taken up in Parliament

Adopted successively by the National Assembly and the Senate in a modified version, the text of the deputies Annaïg Le Meur (Renaissance) and Iñaki Echaniz (Socialist Party) had been left pending due to the dissolution.

But the government has decided to resume the parliamentary shuttle by calling this meeting of the CMP, bringing together deputies and senators, responsible for establishing a compromise text between the versions of the Senate and the Assembly.

The CMP will take place on Monday, October 28 at 17:00 p.m., announced Mr. Echaniz, before a final adoption in the Senate on November 5 and on a date which remains to be confirmed in the Assembly.

The bill targets a much-criticized tax loophole, that of furnished tourist accommodation, which offers its owners a reduction rate that is sometimes considered very advantageous.

Many elected officials, by the sea or in large cities, are in fact alarmed by the shortage of housing in their areas and are particularly targeting the explosion in the number of Airbnbs, encouraged by this tax.

The text voted on in the Assembly proposed reducing the tax reduction rate on income from furnished tourist accommodation rentals to 30% - compared to 71% or 50% currently - with the exception of "very low density" rural areas.

It was then slightly toned down by the senatorial right: the latter approved this rate of 30% but a more favorable reduction of 50% was retained for only "classified" furnished accommodation. The rural exception was also withdrawn by the senators.

The parliamentarians of the two chambers must now find a landing point for this device.

Other measures are included in this cross-party text, including various tools for mayors to regulate the tourist accommodation market.
