Air energy hub: experimentation to reconcile indoor air quality and energy consumption in buildings

To meet this major challenge, the IFPEB (French Institute for Building Performance) and Cerema launched a 11-month experiment with 24 private and public players last June.

On the strength of their partnerships within the framework of energy saving initiatives in schools, colleges and high schools "CUBE.Ecoles" and "CUBE.S", Cerema and IFPEB have launched a new experiment focusing primarily on the “indoor air” criterion, but with a double “energy” perspective. The objective is to better understand the link between indoor air quality and reduction of energy consumption, and to find solutions to reconcile these issues with the comfort and health of users.

Already 15 sites are involved in this "Hub", 10 schools (1 high school, 4 colleges and 5 schools), and 5 buildings in the tertiary sector (offices, shopping mall).

During the experiment, the Cerema teams will provide their expertise on indoor air quality and those of Ifpeb on animation and energy saving actions. The work program takes place in three main stages:

• Carrying out a participatory diagnosis of each building (summer 2022): to analyze the issues, highlight the obstacles, raise awareness among internal teams and draw up an initial action plan;
• Monitoring of the progress of the action plan deployed (autumn 2022) via continuous monitoring of indoor air quality and energy performance over 12 months;
• Animation for 24 months of the community wishing to pool its operational forces to exchange on practices, understand and act.

Companies in the tertiary sector that wish to accelerate the transformation of their practices and work on these issues can still integrate the community by providing a building.
