ABB France contributes to the positive energy of Hikari

In the Lyon Confluence district, the Lyon Smart Community project is helping to create a smart, sustainable and pleasant city for everyone. Over an area of ​​150 hectares, this eco-district will eventually accommodate 25 people during the day and 000 people at night.

HIKARI, a project with ambitious energy efficiency objectives

HIKARI is a set of three Positive Energy Buildings (BEPOS) producing more energy than they consume, which was delivered this summer. These three buildings are made up of shops, offices and homes and are equipped with high-level technological solutions. In order to achieve the ambitious objectives of BEPOS, production, management and energy monitoring systems have been installed in all buildings.

In this ambitious project, ABB France is a supplier of KNX equipment installed in the housing of the HIKARI island.

ABB solutions

KNX is at the heart of the feedback on energy consumption and the automation that allows a low level of consumption to be reached. ABB home automation solutions installed also include temperature, CO2, light sensors, sources of information for users who can:

• Lower the blinds in the living room in case of too bright light and overheating of the room,
• Program the lights off automatically when he leaves a room or his apartment,
• Raise the blinds when there is wind.

ABB's low voltage equipment is also installed thanks to the recommendation of two integrators: Eletech and Indéa. “After validation of the functional needs by the customer, it was asked to choose the best suppliers for each of the categories and this is how the ABB electrical cabinet and metering modules were selected. As for the choice of KNX, it is because it has the advantage of integrating, with a single protocol, all the functionalities required in this positive energy building project: functionality of energy metering, terminal regulation, heating management, lighting management, shutter management, presence detection ... " declares Aurélien Pelourson, Project Manager at Indéa. "In addition, the very principle of the KNX bus is an asset that had been put forward for the work of electrical wiring in the homes" says he.

Damien Arnouts, Manager of Electech, continues: “When studying the specifications submitted, it was necessary to select the best product offer according to each need expressed by the customer and ABB cabinets proved to be the most suitable” ; of course, "The quality / price / functionality criteria have been taken into account".

The equipment offered by ABB and the project partners has three functions:

• Control of apartment heating;
• Personal safety thanks to specific sensors at the level of windows without railings;
• Monitoring to study and understand user behavior, in order to refine the systems and make them more intelligent thanks to equipped sockets and presence sensors installed in each room.

ABB has provided specific technical equipment rich in additional functions integrated into the modules, such as Tor output modules which make communication of different types of electrical loads connected to the KNX bus reliable.
