A Terreal terracotta moucharabieh refreshes the Louise Michel d'Aussone school (31)

Inaugurated in August 2016, the Louise Michel school welcomed its 380 students in a particularly aesthetic architectural ensemble. Its perforated brick facades filter the sun's rays and dress the interior floor with a light checkerboard more or less marked with the passing of the day.

Advised by TERREAL, the agency Danièle Damon Architecte has selected long bricks (40 cm) to play on horizontality and perspective. The black and recessed joints of the pieces reinforce the relief and the materiality of the terracotta.

In order to create this “terracotta moucharabieh”, the architects collaborated with TERREAL throughout the project, from the first drawings to the implementation of the support. In particular, a metal frame has been fitted to guarantee the solidity of the wall. The bricks were installed using the double wall technique to ensure perfect inertia and exceptional thermal comfort.
