He was already acting president following the resignation of Dominique Jarlier on December 13, 2023.
He has been mayor of the commune of Sécheval (08) in the Grand Est region since 1983, a member of the Forestry Communes since that date. He is also the head of a municipal forest of 320 hectares and president of an intercommunal forestry union of 1200 hectares.
From the start of his speech, he wanted to warmly thank Dominique Jarlier, the elected officials and the employees for all the work already accomplished.
A fine connoisseur of all forestry subjects since he has been an active member of the Federation office for 10 years and first vice-president of FNCOFOR for 4 years, he wishes to have this 2-year mandate to continue to ensure the defense of interests of Forestry Municipalities and promote French forests.
Major axes are emerging for his presidency:
- The desire to pursue a strong forestry policy, dictated by elected officials, so that it is heard by ministries and organizations in the sector
- Strengthening the unity of forestry communes in order to carry the national strategy across the entire territory thanks to a vast network of 6000 members
- The continuity of the work carried out alongside the National Forestry Office, which must remain the sole national operator with the application of the FNCOFOR/ONF convention and the Municipal Forest Charter
For Philippe Canot: “Today, the forest is an essential and major societal issue in the context of the climatic situation we are experiencing. We must participate in the solutions provided for the future of forests without the financial burden being too heavy for our communities. »
The action programs (“In 1000 municipalities, the forest is a school”, the use of local wood in construction, the defense of forests against fires, etc.) already initiated will be continued and developed.
Human and financial resources as well as reinforced communication will be necessary to respond to all these challenges.
For Philippe Canot, the commitment of the Forest Communes must rhyme with audacity, will and ambition.
He counts on the support of a team of vice-presidents, elected during the next federal office on March 13.
