A more eco-friendly house lined with Kebony Character wood

In 2020, the owners of this rural house built in 1975 embarked on a global renovation project that is more respectful of the environment, according to the KFW 55 energy standard. They chose Kebony Character wood to dress the facade and cover the insulation, due to the aesthetic but also durable qualities of this wood.

Developed in Norway, Kebony technology is a patented, environmentally friendly process that modifies sustainably sourced softwoods by heating the wood with furfuryl alcohol; a product of organic origin. By polymerizing the cell wall of the wood, softwoods permanently adopt the attributes of tropical hardwood. This unique process gives Kebony wood its characteristic appearance, which continues to improve over time.

Crafted from sustainably sourced, PEFC-certified Nordic pine wood, Kebony Character features authentic knots and a natural look. Very resistant, it requires minimal maintenance. The wooden facade enters into an elegant contrast with the plaster facade that dresses the other half of the building. A spacious terrace is covered with Kebony Clear wooden planks, for an ideal overall harmony.

From now on, the house blends elegantly into the surrounding countryside and the foliage of the trees, while being more respectful of the environment. As it ages, Kebony Character wood will take on an elegant silver-grey patina, which will blend in even better with the rest of the home.
