A Macronist text against "lifetime" social housing scheduled for the Assembly on March 31

Following a customary internal vote, the group chaired by Gabriel Attal decided to devote part of its legislative time to this text tabled by the former Minister of Housing Guillaume Kasbarian, who had already tried to put a similar proposal on track when he was in government.

It proposes to reform, and above all to strengthen, the conditions allowing the termination of a social housing lease, in particular by strengthening the examination of tenants' incomes and by establishing a control of the beneficiaries' assets.

"Today, no one has statistics on this, it is simply not measured," argues Mr. Kasbarian, contacted by AFP. "It is therefore possible to become an owner or to have inherited a home while continuing to benefit from social housing without the situation being reviewed," he continues.

He also proposes to lower the threshold that allows the tenant to be asked for an additional "surcharge" when the total income of the people living in a dwelling exceeds the maximum income for the allocation of social housing. "The ceilings are already very high in France. This would also allow money to be brought into the coffers of social landlords to finance the construction of housing without it necessarily being the State that finances it," assures the deputy of Eure-et-Loir.

The EPR group also intends to include on this day of March 31 a bill from MP Daniel Labaronne to "fight against payment fraud".
