Xella publishes its Sustainable Development 2025 report

The results achieved in 2025 confirmed the relevance of its strategic priorities, operational decisions, and commitment to climate and people. In 2026, the company intends to continue its efforts in energy efficiency and the circular economy, and strengthen the link between climate action and responsible business growth.

From decarbonization to circularity, our progress is based on concrete operational changes, strong governance, and the commitment of teams at our industrial sites and throughout our value chain. »

Promote decarbonization

Xella continues to develop its climate roadmap, guided by its science-based targets. Since 2021, the company has already achieved approximately 40% of its 2030 decarbonization goals, in line with the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. To reduce its CO2 emissions₂ and providing low carbon footprint building materials, Xella continues its decarbonization trajectory for Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

• An 8% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025₂ Scopes 1 and 2. This result is the fruit of energy efficiency projects, fuel change, green energy supply, continuous investment in renewable energy and process optimization across all plants.
• A 4,7% reduction in CO2 emissions₂ Scope 3. This result was achieved through closer collaboration with suppliers, optimization of product formulations (less lime and cement…) and more efficient logistics to reduce the carbon footprint upstream of raw materials.

Accelerate product circularity

Xella is continuing its efforts in the circular economy to achieve its 2030 targets: reducing its consumption of virgin raw materials and eliminating production waste – autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and calcium silicate blocks (CSU) – from landfills. The group has already reduced its AAC and CSU production waste sent to landfills by 90%.

Several initiatives aim to optimize resource use, promote low-carbon production, and ensure better waste management.

• Installation of crushers in factories.
• Reintroduction of residues into production. Recyclable and constituting a constructive, resource-friendly solution, they can be reused as inputs for new products.
• Developing partnerships with recycling companies and suppliers to recover BCA and CSU from demolition and use it as a secondary raw material in formulas.
• Optimize formulas to reduce the use of virgin raw materials.

Strengthening workplace safety

Xella has made the slogan "safe work. safe life.**" a fundamental value of its corporate culture across all its activities.

An 18% reduction in accidents resulting in lost work time. To achieve this, Xella invested €5,3 million in technical safety improvements and the implementation of safety training at its 52 production sites across Europe.

Investing in the people and skills of tomorrow

With €1,9 million invested in employee training by 2025 (approximately 21 hours of training per employee), the company continues to strengthen its diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as the upgrading of digital skills – particularly those related to AI – to prepare its staff for the evolving construction sector. It also aims to attract young talent to the building industry.

Integrating ESG governance and responsibility

Since 2023, a portion of executive compensation has been directly linked to CO2 emission reduction targets.₂ This allows the incentives granted to be aligned with long-term decarbonization objectives. Xella's financing structure also incorporates key ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance indicators relating to emissions intensity, training hours, and reduction of waste sent to landfill – all of which were successfully achieved by 2025.

Since 2022, the ESG team has been supporting initiatives across the Group. It leads the company's sustainable development strategy, monitors performance against objectives, and ensures rigorous governance on environmental, social, ethical and compliance issues.

Thanks to the commitment and dedication of its teams, in July 2025, the company was awarded the EcoVadis silver medal, placing it among the top 15% of companies assessed. Its score improved from 57/100 in 2024 to 70/100 in 2025.

This recognition reflects the company's values ​​and collective commitment, and places Xella among:

• the top 10% of companies in the manufacture of concrete products,
• the top 15% of companies in the sector (manufacturing of concrete, cement and plaster products),
• and the 23% with the best ratings across all sectors.

The EcoVadis assessment covers the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and responsible procurement. The "Advanced Performance" rating recognizes efforts to achieve a score that goes beyond "basic" compliance, thanks to a clear, measurable action plan with real impact.
