Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a few days ago the launch of a wind farm project in the Baltic Sea, awarded to the Danish company Ørsted and the Polish company PGE, for 30 billion zlotys (7,15 billion euros).
The project, called Baltica 2, will extend over approximately 190 km2 of sea, about 40 km from the Polish coast, between the towns of Ustka and Choczew. It will consist of 170 wind-powered turbines, with an expected total power of 1,5 GigaWatt.
The start of the construction site is planned for this year and the farm should be commissioned in 2027.
The project will be carried out by a consortium of the Danish Ørsted and Polish PGE groups, in which the two players hold half of the shares, according to a press release from PGE.
Ørsted will finance its share of investments with its own funds while the Polish group relies on local and international credits, including loans from European banks EIB and EBRD, but also on European funds from the post-Covid recovery plan, according to this press release.
"30 billion zlotys and 1,5 gigawatts, these figures are really impressive," Tusk said at a press briefing.
According to him, "this huge investment is only part of a gigantic project in the Polish energy sector", under which the national offshore capacity is expected to reach 18 GW by 2040.
