Donald Trump's name was inscribed on Wednesday, December 3, on the facade of the American Institute for Peace, a Washington-based organization, on the eve of a signing ceremony for an agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
"This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute for Peace to honor the greatest negotiator in our country's history. Welcome to the Donald Trump Institute for Peace," the official US diplomacy account wrote on X, with a photograph attached.
It was this same institute, created in 1984 under the presidency of Ronald Reagan, that the American president attempted to dismantle in the first months of his second term, dismissing most of its leaders.
Funded by Congress, this independent non-profit organization sought in particular to prevent and resolve international conflicts, and until the beginning of the year had researchers specializing in international issues, as a think tank would.
It is at the headquarters of this institution, in the center of Washington, that the signing ceremony of a peace agreement intended to end the violence in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is to take place on Thursday with Donald Trump, in the presence of the presidents of the DRC Félix Tshisekedi and of Rwanda Paul Kagame.
Donald Trump believes that his efforts to end several conflicts around the world - Gaza, India-Pakistan, Cambodia-Thailand, etc. - should earn him the Nobel Peace Prize.
