TotalEnergies and EnBW win an auction in Germany to build offshore wind farms

The auctions concerned two lots of future offshore parks located in the North Sea, off the coast of the Heligoland archipelago (north), which will have a total power of “2.500 megawhatt”, according to a press release from the Federal Agency networks.

The entry into service of these parks is planned for 2031.

TotalEnergies will pay the sum of “1,95 billion euros” via its subsidiary Offshore Wind One, of which it is the sole shareholder since the recent departure of its German partner RWE.

EnBW will pay 1,065 billion euros for its lot.

The concession, concluded for “a period of 25 years, could be extended to 35 years,” TotalEnergies said on Friday.

“This success will allow TotalEnergies to build a 3,5 GW offshore wind hub in the German part of the North Sea, taking advantage of the synergies between this new project and the concession won last year,” he said. the company in a press release.

The French group has in fact already been designated in 2023 as the recipient of two maritime concessions in Germany, one in the North Sea, the other in the Baltic Sea, after winning a giant call for tenders worth 12,6 billion euros, shared with the British BP.

These auctions confirm "the attractiveness of investments in offshore wind power in Germany", welcomed the president of the network regulator Klaus Müller in the press release.

“They represent another important step towards achieving our offshore expansion objectives,” he added.

Wind power is an important part of Germany's strategy to achieve its carbon neutrality objective in 2045, with in particular a target of 2% of the earth's surface covered by these installations.

Concerning offshore wind, Germany aims to reach a capacity of 30 GW by 2030, compared to 8,8 GW installed at the end of 2023.
