The Terres de Moselle Private Hospital has been awarded for its sustainable and efficient construction.

This award places the future ELSAN establishment in Moselle, designed by the architecture firm AIA Life Designers and supported by Euryale, a leading management company in healthcare real estate and project owner, among the emblematic projects in terms of ecology and environmental responsibility.

Among the 23 applications submitted to the jury, the Terres de Moselle Private Hospital, currently under construction in Maizières-lès-Metz, was awarded the “Jury Prize” in recognition of the project's overall quality, architectural boldness, and environmental dimension. “This distinction underscores our institution's strong commitment to a sustainable approach that respects the challenges of ecological transition, and positions the project as a benchmark among major current hospital programs,” emphasized Gabriel Giacometti, ELSAN's real estate program director, at the awards ceremony.

Recognition for a project with high environmental quality

In a context where environmental, health, and social issues are more intertwined than ever, construction must embody a holistic vision of care, integrating quality of life, respect for the environment, and resource sustainability. It is in this spirit that ELSAN's strong desire to create a new generation hospital was born: a High Environmental Quality healthcare facility, a true symbol of its commitment to a healthier future.

Following an architectural competition launched in 2020, the firm AIA Life Designers was selected from among eight candidates to design the future facility. Guillaume Pakey, architect at AIA Life Designers, explains: “Driven by environmental concerns and the impact of our lifestyles on health, the project places nature at its heart. The Terres de Moselle Private Hospital incorporates an ecological and human-centered approach from its inception.”

This 50.000 m² facility will, from 2026, include 350 beds and places, 24 operating rooms and 26 medical specialties, including centers of excellence in oncology, medical imaging (3 MRIs, 3 scanners, nuclear medicine), emergency and maternity.

The Terres de Moselle Private Hospital combines:

• Bioclimatic architecture: high-performance facades, responsible water management, use of renewable energies (90% of needs covered by a local biomass power plant)
• Bio-based materials and an innovative timber structure reduce the carbon footprint by nearly 50% compared to traditional construction.
• A 3,5-hectare park incorporating 900 trees and plant species promoting biodiversity, well-being and climate regulation (down to -5°C during hot periods)
• A strong territorial anchoring, with the use of local materials (wood from the Vosges, stone from Jaumont, hemp from Lorraine, piles from Arcelor in Luxembourg).

Each choice is guided by the desire to promote the overall health of both patients and professionals.

Towards a sustainable and efficient hospital

But the future Terres de Moselle Private Hospital is not solely focused on energy efficiency or reducing its carbon footprint. It aims to create an environment conducive to healing, reduce stress, facilitate patient care pathways, and offer calming working conditions for medical teams.

Architects, urban planners, engineers, caregivers, patients, and healthcare professionals were invited to participate in the discussions from the earliest stages of its design: the Terres de Moselle Private Hospital project is indeed distinguished by its collaborative approach. Because building a sustainable hospital also means building a living space rooted in its local area, open to the city, and respectful of its ecosystem.

This distinction from the Anap jury is a recognition of the alignment of the future establishment with the challenges of health, environment and ecological transition.

For Euryale, this project illustrates its ambition to invest in healthcare infrastructure that combines a positive societal impact with respect for ESG criteria. As a reminder, the Terres de Moselle Private Hospital will, by 2026, bring together the current ELSAN facilities in Moselle: the Claude Bernard Hospital-Clinic in Metz, the Notre-Dame Clinic in Thionville, and the Metz Private Radiotherapy Institute. Serving a population of over 800.000, this facility will consolidate all medical and surgical disciplines on a single site, allowing patients to benefit from comprehensive and cutting-edge care.
