The White House fires agents tasked with overseeing Trump's architectural projects in Washington

According to the American daily newspaper Washington Post, the United States Commission on Fine Arts was to examine some of the projects of the American president, who has embarked on a series of renovations and constructions since his return to power in January.

The dismissal of the committee members, also reported by the New York Times and CNN, removes a potential obstacle to Donald Trump's ambitions, which have been sharply criticized by architectural historians and political opponents.

Established by Congress in 1910, the Fine Arts Commission is composed of architects and urban planners. It provides advice on the design and preservation of architectural heritage in Washington, focusing on government buildings and monuments in this strictly regulated area.

Last week, workers were tasked with demolishing the east wing of the White House to build in its place a $300 million ballroom desired by Donald Trump.

The Republican also considered building a triumphal arch opposite the Lincoln Memorial, similar to the one in Paris.

Describing the White House as "one of the most important historic buildings in the United States," the non-profit Society of Architectural Historians issued a statement on October 16 expressing its "deep concern" about Donald Trump's plans.

These also drew negative reactions from Democrats, including former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who accused Trump of "destroying" the White House.

His predecessor, former Democratic President Joe Biden, had appointed all the now-dismissed members of the Fine Arts Commission, after having himself revoked the members appointed by Donald Trump during the Republican's first term.

According to media reports, the White House will appoint new commissioners aligned with Donald Trump's policies.
