New acts of vandalism have targeted public works company sites in recent months. These attacks, claimed by radical militant groups, have caused millions of euros in material damage to companies essential to the functioning of our communities. They are completely unacceptable in a state governed by the rule of law.
The National Federation of Public Works condemns these repeated attacks in the strongest possible terms and wishes to assure the companies concerned of its full and complete support.
Public works companies work every day in the service of the general interest by building, maintaining and modernizing the infrastructure essential to the life of our country: access to drinking water, mobility, energy, digital networks, protection of citizens against natural risks.
The National Federation of Public Works reiterates that these infrastructures are a common good of our nation, essential for economic development, territorial cohesion, and the ecological transition. It also emphasizes that the future of our country depends on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting our territories to the effects of climate change, and therefore, on infrastructure.
According to Alain Grizaud, President of the National Federation of Public Works: “Nothing justifies such violence. Behind each of these companies, there are women and men acting in the public interest. They must be able to carry out their work in complete safety and in accordance with the rule of law.”
The National Federation of Public Works is closely awaiting the conclusions of the ongoing investigations into these attacks and calls on the authorities to take the strongest possible action against the perpetrators of these unacceptable acts. The freedom to conduct business and the safety of employees and equipment must be guaranteed throughout the country.
