Le Havre tramway: Spie batignolles paysage is carrying out one of the biggest projects in its history

This contract, which covers a total amount of nearly 6 million euros, is one of the most important operations ever managed by Spie batignolles paysage.

The selected consortium will begin work on the "green space" contract next June, which will continue until the delivery of the new line.

Enriching local biodiversity and combating urban heat islands

The group, selected by the project owner, is composed of Vallois, an entity of Spie Batignolles Paysage (lead contractor) and Martin Père & Fils and Synfolia Jardins Services.

The contract, awarded by Le Havre Seine Métropole, covers all green space works along the entire 14km new tram line under construction.

It presents several challenges for the urban community in its efforts to build resilience in the face of climate change, starting with the preservation and enhancement of local biodiversity and the creation of cool islands to provide greater comfort to its residents during heat waves and improve air quality. The community's ambition is focused on reintroducing nature into the city.

Overall, this project will ultimately represent a new landscaping project covering more than 47.000 m² of urban area. Furthermore, 93% of the platform's length will be permeable using three types of surfacing (mineral, ballast, or vegetation), selected by zone according to various criteria, and 56% will be grassed.

These installations, combined with the creation of vegetated swales, will ensure better management of rainwater.

A wide variety of plants

The urban community entrusted the teams of the group led by Vallois, an entity of Spie batignolles paysage, with the task of planting 900 trees and clumps, 12.000 shrubs and 200.000 perennials/grasses and bulbs belonging to diverse species (purple beech, Japanese anemone…), capable of lasting over time and adapting to global warming.

In total, the teams in the consortium will use approximately 25.000 m³ of topsoil, 8.000 m³ of stony platform soil, and 9.000 m³ of stony tree soil. 91.000 m² of meadows will be sown, and 6.000 m² of pre-cultivated grassland will be laid.

A natural, ecological, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing fence of the Ganivelle type will be installed over 10 km of the new network.
